PERFORMING ARTS
Her Majesty's Theatre has been Ballarat's place of live entertainment for 122 years, since it first opened its doors as "The Academy of Music" on the 7th June 1875.

LITERATURE
Ballarat played a central part in much of the goldfields literature of the second half of the nineteenth century. Other writers lived in Ballarat at various times.

"A Ballad of Eureka" (Victor Daley 1858-1905)
FILM
Australia's second feature, Eureka Stockade (1907), aimed at portraying the 1854 rebellion with historical accuracy. Since then, the story of the rebellion has featured in further films and television series. In August 1999, plans were announced for a multi-million dollar feature film - The Stockade - to be filmed in Ballarat.

TELEVISION
Television station BTV6 commenced transmission of test patterns on 17 March 1962 and officially opened for commercial transmission on 27April 1962
RADIO
3BA Ballarat was the first regional radio station to operate permanently in Australia. The first broadcsat was on 31 July 1930.
VIDEO COLLECTION
Living Ballarat 1901-1941 - a comprehensive 75 minute collection of most of Ballarats earliest films, is available from Screensound (the National Film and Sound Archive) in Canberra.
